Festival Moonride Kicks Off

Šiesty ročník festivalu Moonride sa koná v Košiciach od 19 . – 22. októbra 2011.

Festival Moonride is a showcase of contemporary work in visual arts, theatre, dance, music and literature from the countries of the Visegrad Four. The festival presents a selection of works created during the previous year in Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The sixth year of the festival opens on Wednesday, the 19th of October 2011 at 19:00 at the premises of the Košice TEKO heating plant with an unusual light show projected directly onto the production block of the plant. The opening will continue in Tabačka at Gorkého 2 with exclusive performances by two musical formations that came out of the Košice visual arts scene. The experimental project Global Endemit & Juraj Bartusz will play at 21:00, followed by the performance of the audiovisual duo BIOS.

The highlight of this year’s festival will be the performance by the young Austrian composer Anja Plaschg, who works under the name Soap&Skin. The concert will take place at 20:00 on Friday, the 21st of October in the former Slovan cinema on Hlavná st.

We also warmly invite you to the openings of two exhibitions: “The Discovery of Slowness,” curated by the HIT Gallery especially for our festival, and a group show by photography graduates of the London College of Communication. During the festival the exhibition of the Czech conceptual visual artist Ján Nálevka will also be on at the Make Up Gallery.

The festival’s pick of contemporary dance productions is the Czechoslovak production “Who is Annik?” and the performance “Mezon Temporary” by the leading Hungarian choreographer and dancer Márta Ladjánszki. Theatre productions at the festival comprise two high quality Czech performances and one Czechoslovak coproduction: the play “EUROPEANS,” which balances on the borderline between music, poetry and visual installation; an adaptation of the famous Marquis De Sade novel by the Prague pantomime group Tante Horse; and the play “A Cow’s Innards” by the Košice-based Divadlo na peróne, created during their residency at the Meetfactory in Prague.

The festival goes on until Saturday, 22nd of October 2011. You can find the complete programme together with information about individual productions inside your festival newspaper and on the festival website www.moonride.sk

A four-day ticket for all festival events can be bought at the heart of the festival, Tabačka Kulturfabrik at Gorkého 2. Tickets for individual performances can also be purchased individually before the start of each performance, directly at the place of the event. We are looking forward to seeing you!
